Pondless Waterfall Kit Selection Guide

Why choose a pondless waterfall kit?

Because all the major components - waterfall, well and pump - are already sized to compliment each other, purchasing a pondless waterfall kit is generally a better option than purchasing the components separately. In addition, all the necessary pieces, like your plumbing components, etc. are also included, so you won't forget any small - but necessary - detail. Pondless waterfall kits are relatively easy to install. For a general overview, you can play the video on the right. for a more detailed video, please visit our pondless installation video page!

Unlike ponds, which require 24 hour water circulation, pondless waterfalls can be turned on and off as you prefer. This offers you substantial operational savings over a traditional backyard pond. And, since there is no standing water when the waterfall is turned off, you have a viable option to enhance the landscaping in your front yard as well.

How do pondless waterfall kits differ?

As you probably already noticed from the menu on the left, you have a wide variety of choices when it comes to pondless waterfall kits, virtually guaranteeing that you'll find something to fit your project size - and budget. Generally, pondless waterfall kits come in two types - basic kits and professional grade kits.

Basic Pondless Waterfall Kits

Basic kits, like the American Pond Freedom Series, make perfect weekend projects. Basic kits tend to be smaller, and are ideal when you want a smaller-sized water feature to accent to your landscape, perhaps to compliment your patio or deck. With their smaller sized components, basic kits don't move water to the same height or volume as the professional kits. But the ambience from moving water will make this one landscaping project you'll enjoy for years to come!

Professional Grade Pondless Waterfall Kits

As their name implies, professional grade kits contain larger - and upgraded - components. The larger pumps and waterfalls in these kits are built to handle the flow rates for higher, wider or longer waterfalls and streams. The kink-free tubing that the basic kits use is upgraded to PVC flexpipe - a more durable pipe required by the higher pump pressures that larger waterfalls require.

Selecting the pondless waterfall kit thats right for you

Obviously, no two pondless waterfalls - and no two owners - are exactly alike. Depending on your location and your landscaping needs, what you really want are choices, not a one-size-fits-all solution. If you're undecided, please review the "Build it", "Maintain it", and "Online reference" sections of this website. They contain invaluable information to help you make an informed decision, including the pondless waterfall calculators and pondless waterfall installation video. Ultimately, your aesthetics - and your budget - will help you make the the correct choice for you. But if you're really undecided, simply send us a note and we'll be happy to help you choose.

Now is also a good time to think about those features which will give your pondless waterfall your unique look and feel. Landscape lighting is relatively inexpensive, and adds the ambience you'll need for relaxing summer evenings. And if you order them with your kit, you can have everything you need when you turn your waterfall on for the first time - and take advantage of our free shipping as well. Enjoy!

A final word - about the Pond Matrix

Pond Matrix One of the largest costs in building a pondless waterfall is in the rock and gravel you will need to landscape your stream and backfill your waterfall basin. The rock used to fill the basin will take up approximately 80% of the basin's total volume, and can often exceed the cost of the waterfall kit you purchase.

A simple and inexpensive way to increase the water volume of your basin - and decrease your cost for stone - is to use a pond matrix. Resembling a milk crate, a matrix will greatly increase the water volume in your basin, so you can reduce it's overall size - and the amount of fill the basin requires! When assembled, the matrix is strong enough to drive over, and it will easily hold the weight of your rock fill. The pond matrix can be found in our product catalog, in the "components" section of the pondless waterfall kit menu item.
